ViKKi’s Blog.. Day 3.

So, Z said “Why don’t you write something for the blog?” And as always do what Z says, here I am!

We arrived at the Ecology Rooms at about 1pm on Monday, unloaded vast amounts of gear and luggage, hung around waiting for mr riot to show, and then spent about 4 hours setting up drums.

Gilez had put new skins on all his toms, took ages for him to tune them all properly, but they do sound pretty amazing as a result,

Bass went through my Sansamp and also through a funky little MXR Dyna compression pedal- which I have to get me one of! Very, very good compression.

Plugged in Rob and that was it for the day, tomorrow we would start recording..

Later that evening me and Z cycled to Deal to go grab some nosh from Sainsbury, Rob and Gilez were also there- having driven.

Killer hill on the way back, and these massive killer bee things along the coast path we cycled along.

Back to the lodge- as seen in the Anvil movie, not much of interest to report, R and G talk astonishing amounts of shit, I feel really bad for Z as I have to go home tonight (Weds) to keep on top of t-shirt orders so we can pay for this, he’s going to be stuck listening to the verbal shite these two talk.

Tuesday, up bright and early and cracking off with recording,

We started with “The Dumb Song” two takes, and the drums and bass were done. Wow, that was bloody fast!

Same again with “Normalityville Horror”- very cool!

Hit a problem with the next song, “Zero to Sixty”, the intonation on my bass was well out, didn’t show on the other songs as they were played within the first 7 frets, once you get to 9th though, it goes all out :-(

Possibly something to do with restringing it in the back of Darth Vanner on our way down to Dover.

Rob had a go at sorting it, but it needs professional help. Will be dropping it off to a chap CT knows to be set up, will be sorted in time for me to do bass next week, won’t take long.

Played “Zero to Sixty” on CT’s Peavey Scorpio Zodiac bass, real nice to play, but doesn’t sound quite as nice as mine.

Finished up for the day, me and Z cycled to Deal again for strawberries (for me) and prawns (for Z) and back to the lodge where we all watched the “Devil’s Rejects”.

Wednesday, so far, I have mainly written this blog, listened to some of the bass from the Dumb Song, CT has used this awesome tool on it, it sounds humongous.

So far, this has been a great experience, CT is so lovely and funny and god, does he know his stuff!

I’m really glad we chose to come here to make this album, being able to stay in the lodge makes it all a lot more comfortable and hassle free, we’re all laughing our arses off all day and night, the music we’re making sounds tremendous, I’m hoping some of the good vibe will come through in the recording itself, sorry, that sounded like a load of hippy shit there!

What I mean is, when you are doing something in a great place, with a great atmosphere, with great gear and great people, surely the end result is even greater??

TTFN, I’ll be back next week with my newly set up bass…
